Finish Your Knits
Saturday, January 20: 10 am to 1 pm
You’ve knit that sweater, but now you need to seam it! Join me as we practice different seaming methods for the different parts of a sweater and learn tips and tricks for weaving in your ends. This hands-on class will teach you everything you need to know to finish your knits carefully so they last for years. Practice materials are provided, but feel free to bring in your sweater project to work on and get personalized advice and help. Sign up here.
Custom Fit Sweater Workshop
Saturdays (two sessions available): 10 am to 12:30 pm or 1:30 to 4 pm starting February 3, 2018
Make a perfectly fitting sweater! Join me as I guide you through the whole CustomFit process from start to finish. Learn important sweater-knitting and finishing techniques while you make friends in a knit-along atmosphere. You pick the pattern you want to knit and the yarn that makes a fabric you love. Includes: CustomFit store account set up, private measurement session, swatch analysis, printed and digital copy of CustomFit pattern, four guided KAL sessions and wrap up party. Top-down Socks with Traditional Heel
If you know how to knit in the round, all you need to learn to knit a pair of socks is how to turn a heel and finish the toe. It is easier than you think and works like magic! In this class, you will learn all the parts of a traditional top-down heel and the math to be able to knit it for any sock with any weight of yarn. Then I will guide you step-by-step as you knit a practice heel together, then decrease for the toe and graft it to finish it.
Beginner’s Cast On and Knit
Learn to knit! This class will teach you the basics of casting on and the knit stitch. The first half of the class will be dedicated to teaching how to
- choose yarn and needles
- make a slip knot
- cast on (long tail)
- tension the yarn
- work the knit stitch
The second half of the class will be for practice, individual help, and coaching. Come once or come many times for additional help or review and feel free to bring a friend!
Beginner’s Purl and Bind Off
This class will teach you the next steps if you already know how to cast on and knit. The beginning of the class will teach you how to
- read your knitting
- work the purl stitch
- cast off your knitting
- how to read a pattern
The remainder of the class will be dedicated to practice, individual help, and coaching. Come once or come many times for additional help or review. Bring a friend!
Baby Surprise Jacket
Learn how to knit Elizabeth Zimmerman’s famous three-quarter sleeve baby jacket. This ingenious, reversible design knits up quickly in one piece, then is folded like origami and finished with just two seams. It’s a great way to show off a self-striping yarn or you can combine colors to make a stunning jacket. It can be made in three different sizes, depending on which needle size and yarn weight you choose. The Baby Surprise Jacket is only the beginning. Once you have knit one, you can apply what you have learned to knit any size, from infant to adult. All sizes are included in the pattern. This class will teach you
- long tail cast on
- double increasing/decreasing to make a mitered corner
- making one
- changing color of yarn to make stripes
- picking up stitches
- yarn over buttonholes
- casting off in purl
- sewing a seam and weaving in the ends
In-the-round with Magic Loop
This 2-hour class will teach you all you need to know to knit Magic Loop, which is a great way to knit in the round without using double points or two circulars. You will learn how to cast on and knit with a long circular needle and come away with the beginning of a hat for a newborn.
Knit to Fit
Have you ever knit a sweater and tried it on only to realize it was too big, too small, or too short? Avoid this frustration by learning how to make a gauge swatch and how to apply your personal measurements to any garment pattern. In this class, you will receive personalized measuring, step-by-step instructions, worksheets, tips, and tricks that you can use on any future project. Come ready to learn how to measure yourself and others and crunch some numbers.
Fish Lips Kiss Sock Heel
Want to know how to knit a perfectly fitting sock with no counting, no math, no wraps, no flaps and gussets? Do you want to use up all the sock yarn you purchased, with no leftovers? Do you want to learn to knit in the round with circular needles? In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to
- make a sock template for anyone’s perfect fit
- work two different cast ons for a toe-up sock
- work the Fish Lips Kiss Heel (FLKH)
- work the twin stitches that can be used for any short row project
- how to bind off in 4 different super-stretchy stitches
- use the FLKH as a toe
Fix Your Knits
Come learn how to spot mistakes in your knitting and how to fix them. This class will teach you how to read your knitting and how to solve common mistakes in different stitch patterns—even after you have bound off. Do you have a current project that you’re stuck on because you’ve made a mistake that you don’t know how to fix? Bring it along and get hands-on help!
Knit with Charts
More and more patterns are being published with only charted instructions for lace and cables. This class will give you the skills you need to knit from any chart. You will learn how to read different kinds of charts while you learn to read your knitting, eliminating common mistakes and frustration. Instructions will be given on how to fix mistakes in previous rows using a chart. Also covered will be tips and techniques for wrangling your charted instructions including apps, tools, and chart holders.
Learn to Knit Continental Style
Are you ready to knit with the yarn in your left hand? This class will teach you how to execute basic stitches, increases, and decreases while using fewer motions. Not only will your knitting speed increase, but you will experience less strain and be able to knit longer! This class will teach:
- ways to tension the yarn
- “picking” the knit stitch
- different ways to purl
- k2tog, ssk, and yo
- common mistakes and how to avoid them
